Red Velvet Cake

A classic and rich red velvet cake with a creamy topping for a delightful treat.

Ingredients

1 tsp. vinegar
1 tsp. of soda
2 (3/4 oz. red cake color)
1 tsp. cocoa
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 cup of sugar
1 cup of buttermilk
1/2 cup of butter
2 1/2 cup of cake flour
2 eggs
1 tsp. of salt
1 tsp. baking powder
3 tbls. flour (for topping)
1 cup milk (for topping)
1 stick of margarine (for topping)
1 tsp. vanilla (for topping)
1 cup of sugar (for topping)
1 cup of Crisco (for topping)

Instructions

Mix the vinegar and soda in a small container and add to cake mixture next to last.

Mix the red cake color, cocoa, and vanilla in another small container and add to cake last.

Combine sugar, buttermilk, butter, cake flour, eggs, salt, and baking powder. Mix all ingredients and add others as directed.

Bake at 350°F for 30-35 minutes.

For topping: Mix flour and milk, cook to thicken, and let cool. Do not refrigerate.

Cream butter, sugar, and Crisco, and add cool mixture. Do not over beat.
